The dream is over....long live the dream!
Now, unfortunately, the Albtraum Gächingen has come to its end. These were wonderfull days,
but the memories, and quite a few sunburns, remain.
First, a few facts: More than 3000 litres of beer, 70 cakes, 800 dinners, 1 year and countless
working hours in preparation and execution, around 600 visitors, 100 volunteers, and 5 days
setting up and dismantling. We had unbelievable luck with the weather, and everything
really worked out the way we had planned.
Kudos, and our gratitude, is due to the aproximately 100 hard working volunteers who made
the whole thing possible. A great team gathered together and despite all the imponderables, pulled
through with flying colours. A portion of our gratitude belongs to each and every one of the people
who made this wonderfull event, the memory of which will remain with us for a
long time to come, even possible.
We saw exceptional football overall, and a very deserving tournament winner, Bad Muskau!
A fairplay trophy was not awarded on purpose, as one would have been due to all of the teams
involved this year. Moreover, it is significant that the only injury of the tournament befell the
coach from the ICE ICE BABIES. We’d like to wish him a speedy recovery, and hope he will be
back in action soon.
We must also offer many, many, thanks for the absoloute hospitality and friendliness of our
Gächingen hosts. Through cake sales, by the way, the Gächingen youth team were able to finance new
Uniforms and track suits. Perhaps we have contributed to the developement of one or more new star players
from the alb.
Thanks also to the artists and performers who provided the entertainment , there was a truly excellent
and diverse program !
The incomperable atmosphere at the tournament proves yet again that sport can unite the people!
Bringing together all the volunteers, the Gächingen locals, athletes, and our well travelled geusts
Has more than certainly contributed to world peace! ( a little emotionalism should be allowed the writer
At this point) ;-)
What remains are the memories, and the certainty that the dream manifested here, will live on.
See you all next year in Yorkshire!
